To get started, simply navigate your way to the Apex Settings and select the ‘Code Set Manager’ option within the Data Standardisation section.
Once in the Code Set Manager select ‘New Code Set’ to get started building your new library item. You will first need to give it an applicable name (to represent your included code sets), and optionally, you can add a description. Once this is created, you can then begin to identify the codes you wish to include.
To add a code simply select the ‘Add’ option adjacent to ‘Included Codes’ and add whichever individual SNOMED codes you would like to include. You then can add the code alongside its descendant codes or even add the descendant codes only. Choose the option most suited to your desired search and confirm your selection by pressing the ‘Add’ button. If you need help searching for your SNOMED codes, you can use the browser here.
If, when creating your library item, you choose to add a code alongside it’s descendants, but do not wish to include all the descendants, there is an exclusion option for you to remove descendant codes. To remove the undesirables simply select the ‘Add’ option adjacent to ‘Excluded Codes’, add the code you wish to exclude and then confirm by selecting ‘Add’. You can repeat this step as often as necessary to allow you to add as many codes as you wish to your set so continue to add codes until you have met your desired criteria. Once you have done this simply select the ‘Save & Close’ option in the top right and your new library item will be available for you to use at will within the Code Analysis Apex dashboard.
What Codes Shall I Add?
Supporting other NHS Services using Code Analysis
CPCS Referrals | 1362511000000107
Patients Seen in A&E | 185210004
Patients using NHS 111 | 887641000000105
Patients using Out of Hours Services | 25781000000108
Social Prescribing Referrals | 871731000000106
These examples of how code sets were used have allowed practices to understand the patients utilising different NHS services such as A&E, NHS 111, and Social Prescribers. By identifying patients through Code Usage by Patient, we can use this code set to identify those who are regularly visiting A&E and NHS 111. Utilising this, practices have been able to support other NHS services in reducing the number of patient contacts and implementing a care plan to support the patient moving forward.
